Research reports, arguments and citations must represent the underlying evidence faithfully. Authors should describe methods, sources, selection criteria, limitations and uncertainty sufficiently for readers and reviewers to assess the work. They should retain research records for an appropriate period and provide clarifications when lawful and practicable. Claims about data availability must describe the actual conditions of access.

Research involving human participants, personal information, animals or restricted material must comply with relevant institutional approvals and applicable law. Authors must state ethics approval, consent arrangements and relevant exemptions where required. Identifying information should be removed or protected unless its disclosure is justified and authorized. Figures and images must not be altered in a manner that changes their scholarly meaning.

The Press may request source files, data documentation, permission records or an institutional statement when a credible concern arises. The inquiry distinguishes an honest error from misconduct and gives all affected parties a fair chance to explain. Editorial action may include clarification, revision, rejection, referral to an institution or a postpublication notice. The Press protects confidential information while maintaining an accurate scholarly record.
